About the course: 

This course provides you with the foundational knowledge and understanding you need to do a hearing evaluation following best practices. The course is designed for new learners trying to develop their skills as well as returning practitioners looking for a tune-up.

You will learn to complete a hearing evaluation of the outer, middle, and inner ear. The course goes over important anatomy and how hearing works, along with how hearing health providers assess each part of the hearing pathway.

Each lesson contains easy to understand text and includes visual aids and video supplements to help you with complex concepts. At the end of each lesson, you will find instructions for how to access a custom made practice case using a state-of-the-art simulation software called Theta. Theta will be your virtual patient, and it responds like a real patient would (but it doesn’t get bored or fall asleep in the booth!). These practice cases will target the concepts discussed in the lesson, so you get hands-on experience as you learn!

Each practice assignment gives you instant feedback on your performance, along with flags for things you can work on to improve as you go. You can complete each practice case as many times as you want, giving you essentially unlimited opportunities to practice and gain confidence.

Once you finish each lesson, there is a short quiz to check your understanding. Complete the entire course and ace the final quiz to earn your first certificate. You will then be eligible to complete your certification practical exam to become a Theta-certified provider!

About the course creator: Shae Morgan is a licensed hearing health professional in Louisville, Kentucky. He holds both an Au.D. and Ph.D. in Audiology. He is the developer and technology lead who designed and helps maintain the Theta audiology simulator. With this unique triple skill set of web development, education, and audiology, he provides an unparalleled experience in delivering features and experiences that learners need in an intuitive, user-friendly environment. 

When he’s not debugging or working on the next feature or version, Dr. Morgan likes to spend time with his spouse and two kids, play table tennis, tinker on his 3D printer, and explore outdoors.

About the company: Audiology Technology Solutions, LLC was formed in 2020 in response to the immediate need to provide meaningful clinical simulation experiences in audiology for university students. Since then, it has continued to grow and support its mission: To provide accessible, high-quality services that can be used to train and evaluate hearing health professionals.
